The Restena Foundation presents the past year's highlights and publishes its annual report for its activities throughout 2024.

Through its 2024 annual report four main chapters - key figures, highlights, governance and annual accounts – the Restena Foundation highlights its main activities interconnecting and providing network and security services for both research and education and management of the .lu domain name registration infrastructure.

Driven by the commitment of a team made of 22 employees and marked by two retirements and the integration of five new recruits during the year2024 was marked by numerous achievements. Among them were several new ones.

  • The participation in the European NGSOTI project - coordinated by the Computer Incident Response Center Luxembourg (CIRCL), Luxembourg House of Cybersecurity - that intends to set up an open-source training infrastructure based on real data for the practical training of SOC operators in network-related alerts.
  • The organisation - in close collaboration with the GÉANT Association – of a TRANSITS1 training on incident management gathering IT personnel and Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) personnel in Luxembourg.
  • The publication of a a tip sheet on the best practices for email hygiene.
  • The intensification of its range of training courses on DNS and the DNSSEC protocol, with four new courses added to the Digital Learning Hub (DLH) training catalogue at the end of the year.
  • The introduction of a new VPN access, known as eduVPN, based on a solution developed at European level by the GÉANT association as a federated service and benefiting not only users of RESTENA services, but also employees and students of institutions affiliated to the eduID Luxembourg authentication and access authorisation service.
  • The mandatory use of the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol version 1.2 or higher for all connections to its email servers, to secure electronic communications passing through the RESTENA network, the National Research and Education Network.

In 2024, new fees for operations related to .lu domain names went into effect, after 14 years without any evolution in prices . This increase impacted all registrars accredited to offer .lu domain names, including the .lu domain name registrar managed by Restena
