Cloud - infrastructure as a service

Adapt your IT resources to meet the changing requirements of your activity on an ad hoc basis

On 10 and 11 May 2021, cloud-based digital platforms and service providers highlighted their offer and their specificities to the Luxembourg community through individual webinars.

Challenges

Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a cloud computing solution that allows you to access state-of-the-art IT resources in a virtual environment. Thanks to this solution, organisations benefit from the necessary resources without any need to develop or physically install their components within their system.

This solution is especially well-suited to organisations that need to meet IT resource requirements on an ad hoc basis, such as the research and education sectors. Research and education institutions take part in numerous projects with durations ranging from one to several years, which may involve one or several partners, and their activities meet specific demands and requirements. But in addition to the necessary resources for their projects to function properly, the institutions may also need to speed up the deployment of their activities at some point in time, for example with the hosting of a website, or simply to focus their resources on the core activities, not on the underlying infrastructure e.g. for practical work at school.

Features

The Restena Foundation allows players in the fields of research and education in Luxembourg to access cloud resources (IaaS, Infrastructure as a Service) as part of their projects for which they need access to specific IT resources within a given period of time. As a member of the GÉANT Project and acting as a national research and education network (NREN), the Restena Foundation is a beneficiary of a framework European contract established between GÉANT and several IaaS providers. Hence, it can offer its community privileged access to services that are the subject of growing interest in the world of education and research.

Eligible Luxembourgish institutions can benefit from the services of partner IaaS providers regarding electronic data processing, storage, or indeed fundamental IT resources such as processors, memory, disk space and bandwidth.  Access to tools that facilitate collaboration completely securely is also available.

In addition to research activities, this service is also beneficial to eligible projects at the level of secondary education, such as practical work, practical projects or indeed technological tests.
