SUPPORT - VPN CONFIGURATION
VPN (Virtual Privat Network) is a technology to connect to a remote network in a secure way. This service is available to all RESTENA users outside the network wanting to connect to service available only on the intranet or to external services normally reserved to the RESTENA network (i.e. Fichier élève application).
VPN usage is accessible only to RESTENA users and needs a RESTENA account (username + password). To open a RESTENA VPN connection, please use your RESTENA username. The IAM username is not valid!
Installation and configuration of a VPN connection
CAUTION :
Install and use the VPN connection only:
- if you need to connect in a secure way to Intranet services Intranet from RESTENA or MENFP
(i.e. fichier élèves or scolaria)
and - if you are connected to an Internet service provider other than RESTENA (i.e. P&T Luxembourg)
and - if you already have a RESTENA account (username + password)
Microsoft Windows 7 / 8
First install the VPN server certificate
Download the file RestenaVPN.zip. Extract it by clicking with your right mouse button on it and selecting Extract All.
Click again Extract and leave the box "Show extracted files when complete" checked.
Enter the directory "RestenaVPN".
Click the file certinstall with you right mouse button and select Run as administrator.
Confirm your choice in the "User Account Control" box by clicking Yes.
Define a VPN connection with RESTENA
Your Windows 7 operating system has already a VPN client software integrated. To configure it, please follow the instructions on this page.
Right-click on the networking icon on the bottom right side of your screen, then click Open Network and Sharing Center.
Click on Set up a new connection or network.
Choose Connect to a workplace then click on Next.
If you have already defined other VPN connections, the following dialog box appears. Choose No, create a new connection and click on Next.
Click on Use my Internet connection (VPN)
Fill in the Internet address field with the VPN server name 'vpn.restena.lu' and put a name for the connection in the Destination name field, ie 'RESTENA VPN'. Check the Don't connect now; ... box and click Next.
Enter your RESTENA username and password (the IAM username will not work !) and click on Create.
If you want to use your VPN connection now, click on Connect now. Else, click on Close.
Click on the networking icon on the bottom right of the screen, then click on RESTENA VPN with your right mouse button and select Properties.
In the now open window, go to the Security tab and select IKEv2 in the "Type of VPN" field. Click OK.
Establish a VPN connection with RESTENA
Click on the networking icon on the bottom right of the screen, then click on RESTENA VPN or whatever name you've given the VPN connection and click on Connect.
Verify your username and enter you password, then click on Connect.
To disconnect, click on the networking icon on the bottom right of the screen, then click on RESTENA VPN or whatever name you've given the VPN connection and click on Disconnect.
Note:
On first connection, choose a connection type, usually Home and then click on Close.
You can now use your VPN connection.
Note:
Don't forget to disconnect the VPN as soon as you don't need the Intranet services of RESTENA or MENFP anymore!
